Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Since independence, Indonesia has been led by eight presidents, from the proclaimer Sukarno to the current President, Prabowo Subianto.
The wealth and assets of state officials, including the President, have always been the focus of society. Many people are curious about their wealth.
So, how much wealth do the presidents of Indonesia have? Here is a list quoted from various sources:
1. Sukarno
It is not known exactly how much wealth the first President of Indonesia had. However, based on an Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung edition on December 17 and 19, 2012 as quoted from detikcom, in the same year, it was mentioned that Sukarno’s wealth was $180 billion stored in a bunker at the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS).
The Kronen Zeitung newspaper is one of the oldest newspapers in Austria. They have been published since January 2, 1900.
2. Soeharto
Quoting detikcom, The United States Treasury detected a large amount of money transfer amounting to $9 billion to a bank in Austria in 1998 after Soeharto stepped down. The money belonged to the second President.
However, this amount is believed to be only a part of Soeharto’s wealth during his term from 1966 to 1998.
Meanwhile, an international financial institution, Time Warner Inc, mentioned that Soeharto’s wealth reached around $15 billion, including $9 billion transferred from a Swiss bank to a bank in Austria.
3. B.J. Habibie
It is also not known for sure how much wealth BJ Habibie had, but an Asia Far Eastern Economic Review print media once reported that BJ Habibie’s wealth reached $60 million.
The Asia Far Eastern Economic Review is the largest English-language business media in Asia based in Hong Kong. BJ Habibie’s wealth came from intellectual property rights over several technological inventions and technology-related businesses.
According to Globe Asia, BJ Habibie’s children, Ilham Habibie and Thareq Habibie Ilthabi Rekatama, have a wealth of $250 million from several technology companies owned by the Habibie family.
4. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur)
Abdurrahman Wahid, or Gus Dur, according to the State Officials Wealth Report (LHKPN) in 2001, had a wealth of Rp 3.49 billion.
His wealth came from his land and buildings, transportation, precious metals, securities, as well as deposits and cash.
5. Megawati Soekarnoputri
Megawati is rumored to have wealth amounting to Rp 96.16 billion based on the LHKPN in 2014.
She owned land and buildings totaling Rp 36 billion, transportation worth Rp 1 billion, securities worth Rp 33 billion, and deposits and cash totaling Rp 1 billion.
6. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)
Based on the 2014 LHKPN, SBY was known to have a wealth of Rp 13.98 billion. His wealth came from various sources, ranging from transportation valued at Rp 500 million, land and buildings worth Rp 5 billion, and deposits and cash amounting to Rp 6 billion.
7. Joko Widodo (Jokowi)
Based on the 2023 LHKPN, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had a wealth of Rp 95.8 billion. This amount increased compared to Jokowi’s 2022 LHKPN of Rp 82.3 billion.
Jokowi owned 20 plots of land and buildings worth Rp 74.1 billion. In addition, Jokowi also had 8 vehicles worth Rp 432 million, other movable assets worth Rp 356 million, and cash and cash equivalents of Rp 20.8 billion.
8. Prabowo Subianto
Based on the December 31, 2023 LHKPN, Prabowo had assets of Rp 2.04 trillion with no debt.
Most of Prabowo’s wealth was in securities with a total value of Rp 1.7 trillion. He was also recorded to have land and buildings worth Rp 275.3 billion.
